- When I posted earlier about my predicament trying to get MacTCP onto
- my A1200 to use with ShapeShifter, I was given some advice via email
- and in this newsgroup, and for those interested (less knowledgable
- souls like me), this was the solution:
-
- I ran out to the local WaldenBooks near where I work, and found about
- 5 different books that had to do with using a Mac on the internet.
- All of them either had a CD or HD floppy disks with them, which had
- MacTCP on them. I purchased one with a disk ("Getting started on the
- WWW for Mac" or something like that). I immediately ran back to work,
- and took the disk out (I might not ever look at the book again).
-
- I ran back to work, and fetched a program off the net called Mac-ette.
- This program allows you to read HD Mac disks in an MSDOS floppy drive.
-
- Then, I used Mac-ette to copy the files on the disk to my hard drive
- at work (in *Macbinary* format). I then ftp'ed the files (from my
- internet connection at work) to my home account on my interent service
- provider's system.
-
- Later at home, I downloaded the files to Shapeshifter with Z-term
- (found in SSBootfile). Installation from that point was a snap.
-
-
- For those who wish to do the same:
-
- If you have a similar situation to mine, but only have email internet
- access (not ftp) at work, you can transport the file by uuencoding (or
- bin-hexing) the file, and emailing it to your service provider's
- account.
-
- If you dont have any internet access at work (or the location where
- you have access to a PC), you can still transport the file by using a
- bin-hex utility to encode the files, split them if they're too big,
- and copy them to low density MS-DOS disks. Then use Crosdoss on your
- Amiga to read the bin-hex files, and from there, use whatever method
- to get them into ShapeShifter.
-
- Anyone who needs help with this can email me.
-
-
- I have one last big problem, though: I didn't receive my keyfile yet
- :-(
-
- Can anyone say how long it usually is before this is sent out? (I
- sent my $$ to Christian 2 weeks ago).
